Engineers love the rigor, consultants love the billable hours, executives love the promise of “world-class reliability.” But here’s the uncomfortable truth: RCM as originally conceived solved a highly specific problem for standardized fleets 1960s jet aircraft under the watchful eye of FAA regulators.
